The story of our name

Our owner, Stacey, is the seventh great-granddaughter of the once famous John Endicott, first governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. His family estate and orchard spanned for nearly three hundred acres near Salem, Mass. On that land, there was one particular pear tree that was planted around 1630. This tree weathered many storms, freezes, floods, and survived a fire as well as being vandalized and cut down; only to grow back and continue to bear fruit. That tree still stands today nearly 400 years later. It remains the oldest known still-fruiting tree in North America and is cultivated for its unique heirloom fruit called the Endicott Pear. There are only 11 seed vaults in the world that hold the seed from the Endicott Pear and one of them is right here in the salon’s backyard, at the National Clonal Germplasm Repository in Corvallis.

That’s how we became Pear Tree Salon, our name paying homage to the roots and foundation that gives us the strength to stand tall and proud--with beautiful hair, skin, and nails, of course!
